The Centre collaborated with the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) in order to assess the relationship between the various domains of subjective and objective wellbeing and their impact on the level of satisfaction with the City as well as their general sense of well-being.

Under the project, a city happiness index was developed (which can also be used for other Indian cities) and a number of aspects of city such as cultural heritage, recreation, facility for the old, safety of women, were addressed with many recommendations which were incorporated in New Town, West Bengal.
